Features: Turgenev always grasps the "laws of movement" in life, discerning the typical characteristics of the era through the "transformations of chance." It can be said that observing the phenomena of the present reality, delving deeply into its essence, swiftly capturing the pulse of the times, and reflecting it artistically—these are the main reasons why Turgenev became a great writer. Night Before Christmas and Fathers and Sons are the best examples. Turgenev (1818-1883) was a renowned 19th-century Russian writer, and Night Before Christmas and Fathers and Sons are two of the most important works in his life. Night Before Christmas is set against the backdrop of the "night before" the abolition of serfdom in Russia, narrating the poignant love story between Elena, a noblewoman who yearns for freedom and embodies the awakening of the social spirit, and the Bulgarian patriot Inzarov, who has lofty ideals. After the male protagonist dies, she remains loyal to his lifelong cause and bravely becomes a volunteer nurse in Bulgaria. Fathers and Sons is one of the writer's best novels, depicting the love story between the noblewoman Ozimova and the protagonist Bazarov. The female protagonist finds common ground with him due to her feeling that high society is shallow and empty, but she is ultimately a "pleasure-seeking lady" and cannot truly love a common revolutionary. In the end, Bazarov's love is frustrated, leading to his death in an accidental event.
