Features: Shao Xingquan, author of Shao's Solutions, was a physician during the late Qing Dynasty. According to the postscript in the manuscript, he was a renowned physician during the Xianfeng and Tongzhi years (1851–1865) and practiced medicine in Shanghai during the Taiping Rebellion period. He wrote Shao's Solutions, a six-volume work, which, as seen from the manuscript, was compiled and transcribed by his different disciples. Shao's Solutions covers seventy diseases, including internal, external, and gynecological conditions, with over a thousand medical case records. The diseases he treated were primarily prevalent in the Jiangnan region, where patients often had a constitution dominated by yin deficiency and phlegm-dampness. Therefore, his diagnostic and prescription methods were deeply influenced by the theory of warm disease. Shao's Solutions is rich in content and covers a broad scope. Although the case records are concise, they closely align with diagnostic key points, and the prescriptions also have a certain representativeness, making them valuable for clinical reference today.
Record of Clinical Applications for Emergencies was written by Liu Jinfang, a physician during the late Qing Dynasty. From a young age, he studied medical texts from various schools, integrating the theories and clinical experiences of different traditions. Record of Clinical Applications for Emergencies was completed in Xianfeng Jiwei (1859) and includes over one hundred medical case records, representing part of Liu Jinfang's clinical practice. His characteristics include: emphasizing syndrome differentiation, flexible prescription choices, skillful use of herbal pastes, and a focus on pediatric and gynecological conditions. The recorded diseases cover external pathogenic factors (six evils), internal injury and miscellaneous diseases, pediatric smallpox, and gynecological disorders, reflecting Liu's clinical expertise. At the end, there is an appendix listing the prescriptions used in the cases, for easy reference.
