Is this epilepsy for your daughter?

Patient's question:

My daughter is nine years old. When she was five, she fainted once in kindergarten. When she was eight, she had two episodes of abnormal symptoms - her lips turned blue, her head tilted backward, her hands clenched tightly, and the duration was about ten to twenty seconds. Is this epilepsy?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, based on your description, it should be a seizure. Epilepsy is afebrile convulsion, with no obvious premonitory symptoms during an attack and no fever. It is recommended to further examine with an electroencephalogram (EEG) and a cranial CT scan. If the EEG indicates the presence of epileptic waves, it supports the diagnosis of epilepsy, and oral antiepileptic drugs can be taken for long-term treatment. The cranial CT scan is to rule out any intracranial lesions causing convulsions.
