How to deal with adenoid face

Patient's question:

The child is 14 years old and has developed adenoid facies. What should be done about adenoid facies?

Doctor's answer:

Adenoid face refers to a facial appearance caused by adenoid hypertrophy leading to impaired facial bone development, resulting in elongated jawbones, high-arched palates, malocclusion, prominent upper incisors, thick lips, and a lack of expression. It can also be referred to as "idiopathic face," and once it forms, it is difficult to reverse.
Guidelines:
The recommended treatment for adenoid hypertrophy is surgical intervention or a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. If the child is older (over five years old) and exhibits severe symptoms, especially chronic respiratory issues and snoring, the likelihood of spontaneous recovery from adenoid hypertrophy is very low. In such cases, the earlier the surgery is performed, the better, as conservative treatments are slow to take effect. Meanwhile, the symptoms themselves have a significant impact on the child's development, and prolonged continuation of this condition may lead to irreversible consequences on their normal growth and development.
