Fan Zeng's Autobiography is a reflection of his character and spirit, an inner monologue, and a flow of his thoughts and feelings. Through it, one can gain insight into Fan Zeng's genuine values and sentiments toward life, art, and traditional culture, making it a worthy sequel to his first autobiography.
Fan Zeng's writing mirrors his person. With his life's history, abundant knowledge, and exceptional artistic talents, he has created an artistic realm where the soul of poetry and the essence of painting are seamlessly blended. The agility of emotion, the vastness of thought, and the profound strength of character in his prose read like his paintings—exquisite and magnificent! Fan Zeng once said, "The influences on my literary style are most profound: the poetic charm of Qu Yuan, the profound sorrow of Sima Qian, the carefree expansiveness of Su Dongpo, and the melancholic spirit of Jia Xuanchun." Fan Zeng's prose masterfully combines the resonant classical verses with the accessible modern language, making readers feel as though they transcend time and space, with their thoughts and emotions soaring to the distant and boundless.
