Patient's question:
6 months, it has been a bit of a cough since the night before yesterday. On the third day, a runny nose started, and the cough became more severe. I took cold medicine, anti-inflammatory medicine, and cough syrup, but the effect was not obvious. I went to the hospital for a thorough check-up, and the doctor still prescribed these three types of medicine. Starting yesterday afternoon, my bowel movements have become looser...Doctor's answer:
If the baby coughs persistently while sleeping, you can lift their head up to alleviate the coughing. Raising the head is helpful for most coughs caused by infections, as when lying flat, secretions in the baby's nasal cavity can easily flow down to the throat, causing throat irritation and worsening the cough at night. Raising the head can help increase the drainage of nasal secretions backward. It's also important to change the sleeping position frequently, preferably alternating between the left and right sides, which helps in the discharge of respiratory secretions. Drinking warm fluids can make the baby's mucus thinner, relieve tension in the respiratory tract lining, and promote mucus expulsion. It's best to let the baby drink warm water, warm milk, or gruel. Fresh juice can also be given, but choose less irritating options like apple juice or pear juice, avoiding citrus juices like orange juice or grapefruit juice. At night, apply a Dinggui'er umbilical patch to the baby's navel, and change it every 24 hours for three consecutive days.
