A newborn with has higher bilirubin levels

Patient's question:

Eating, drinking, sleeping are all normal. Four or five days after birth. The previous treatment and effectiveness: Currently investigating the cause of breast milk, if not, what other reasons could there be? Carefully check the liver function test results: Item name Result Unit Reference range...

Doctor's answer:

Jaundice can be divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice.
Physiological jaundice: It reappears 2-3 days after birth, peaks between 4-6 days, and disappears in full-term infants within 10-14 days. In premature infants, it may persist for 3-4 weeks. Generally, treatment is not required. The main reasons are the massive destruction of red blood cells after birth, excessive production of bilirubin, and immature liver function, which reduces the ability to metabolize bilirubin.
Pathological jaundice: Any case where jaundice reappears too early (within 24 hours after birth), is too severe, lasts too long, or reappears after initially fading is considered pathological jaundice. It is recommended to use blue light for treatment.
