Patient's question:
Description of Zhou Ban's condition: My daughter started feeling feverish on August 12th in the morning, and on August 13th, she was found to have chickenpox. She went to the hospital, and it was confirmed to be chickenpox. Her body has been quite hot, mostly above 38 degrees Celsius, and she has been given Nimesulide granules (for fever reduction), and her spirits are still quite good.History of treatment and effectiveness: She was given Pudilan, Viraline, and Xiao'er Jinqiao granules.
What kind of help is needed: Could you please tell me how many days it usually takes to have chickenpox and when a fever requires taking fever-reducing medication? Is it okay to take Nimesulide granules? Do I need to administer antiviral medications through an IV? Thank you!
Doctor's answer:
1. Drink more warm water, vegetable juice, and fruit juice:Give the baby more water to replenish fluids, which is the most basic method for reducing fever and is very effective and practical, suitable for all feverish babies. Do not give the baby cold water because when they have a fever, they often have gastrointestinal symptoms and coughing, and drinking cold water can worsen these accompanying symptoms. Give the baby warm water.
2. Warm water sponge bath:
This involves using a warm towel to wipe the entire body. It is a good method for reducing fever and is suitable for all feverish babies. The water temperature should be between 32–34°C, and each wipe should last more than 10 minutes. The focus areas for wiping are the skin folds, such as the neck, armpits, elbows, and groin.
3. Low-temperature room method:
Place the baby in a room with a temperature of about 24°C to allow their body temperature to gradually decrease. To help cool the skin by allowing it to come into contact with the outside air, the baby should wear as little clothing as possible. If conditions permit, air conditioning can be used to lower the room temperature. This method is suitable for infants under one month old, especially in the summer. As long as the baby's clothes are left open and placed in a shaded area, their body temperature will gradually decrease. If the baby has chills or shivering during a fever, this method should not be used.
