Publish Date: 1995-06-01
Features: This anthology is divided into four volumes. The first volume contains works from 1843 to 1859, the second volume includes works from 1857 to 1871 and excerpts from The Capital, the third volume contains works from 1871 to 1883, and the fourth volume includes works from 1884 to 1895 and letters between Marx and Engels. The documents selected for the anthology are generally arranged in chronological order of writing or publication. For the convenience of readers, prefaces and introductions written by Marx and Engels for certain works at different times are usually compiled together with the original works; the 10 articles discussing China and the excerpts from The Capital (volumes one, two, and three) are also compiled separately; the letters between Marx and Engels are organized chronologically in the fourth volume. This volume includes works from Marx and Engels from 1857 to 1871 and excerpts from The Capital (volumes one, two, and three). The first work in this volume, the Introduction, is the general introduction Marx intended to write for his monumental work on political economy. In the Introduction, Marx elaborates in detail on the ideas regarding the subject and methods of political economy. Bourgeois economists sever the intrinsic connection between production and distribution, exchange, and consumption, viewing capitalist production as an eternal "general production," believing that only the distribution method changes, and thus often treat distribution relations as the research object of political economy.
