Patient's question:
Half a year oldDuration of this illness:
My sister's son is two and a half years old this year. He often has fever and colds. Since last year, he has had several episodes of convulsions, spitting white foam, purple lips, and unconsciousness. He has been hospitalized several times, but no definitive diagnosis has been made. This year, it has happened several times, almost once a month, usually occurring at 1 or 2 a.m.
Current condition:
After the episode, everything returns to normal.
Detailed medical history and consultation purpose:
Could you please tell me what illness he might have, whether it can be diagnosed, and how it should be diagnosed? Thank you for your reply!
Doctor's answer:
Generally, children under the age of five, due to underdeveloped nervous systems and unstable ability to regulate temperature, along with other comprehensive factors at home, are prone to seizures during high fever or prolonged low fever. This is commonly referred to as febrile seizures, which are usually not serious and typically improve by the age of five or six. However, some children may have developmental issues in the brain or even abnormal brain activity. Brain (EEG) and brain CT scans can be conducted based on the child's seizure condition. If the results are normal, then it is likely a febrile seizure.
