Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: My daughter is a little over four months old, but she never rolls over. Even when placed on her side, she doesn't move. She plays the same way no matter how you position her. What could be the reason for this? Is there a problem?Current general condition: The child is otherwise doing well, being breastfed and also given mashed egg yolk.
Doctor's answer:
About three months, I guess. It's said that babies "roll over at three and sit up at four," but many babies roll over after four and a half months too. Don't hurry. You can help your baby practice rolling over appropriately. Here are some methods you can try:1. Lay your baby on his back on the bed. Gently hold his two lower legs with your hands, placing the right leg on top of the left. This will naturally twist his waist, and his shoulders will also rotate. After practicing this multiple times, your baby will learn to roll over.
2. Lay your baby on his side on the bed. Call his name from behind, and at the same time, use a noisy toy to attract his attention. This will encourage him to search for the sound and turn his body into a prone position naturally.
3. Once this movement becomes familiar, place your baby's favorite toy nearby. Continuously encourage him to reach for it. This way, your baby might accidentally roll back into a side-lying position while playing with the toy. If he finds it a bit difficult, gently assist him.
4. After your baby has mastered rolling from his back to his side, you can deliberately place the toy slightly farther away when he rolls from his back to his side to grab it. This will give him the chance to roll over onto his stomach. However, don’t place the toy out of reach, as this might lose his interest in practicing and prolong the time it takes to learn to roll over independently.
