Can children undergo CT scans?

Patient's question:

At night, the baby fell hard from the sofa, hitting the back of his head. He had also fallen this way before. Is there anything wrong? Should we check his head? His dad said he's afraid there might be a bruise. Is that possible? If we need to check, what exactly should we check?
First follow-up question: No? He vomited, and the fall was very severe. It happened last night. If we do a CT scan, will it cause any harm to the child?

Doctor's answer:

It is certain that the baby can undergo a CT scan. This test has mild radiation side effects, but they do not affect a child of this age. However, the baby is coughing and has phlegm. If the baby is unwilling to do a CT scan, antibiotics can be used first to see if the condition improves. If there are no other complications, a CT scan may not be necessary. It is recommended to start with medication and not rush into a CT scan. You can discuss this with your clinical doctor, and if a CT scan is deemed necessary, it can be performed then.
