Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Premature puberty, physical examination results showing characteristics of an 11-year-old. Parents are concerned about future development and request medication.First follow-up question: Early childhood development is no longer uncommon, especially in girls. Please advise: What impact would ignoring this issue have on the child's future development? A doctor previously recommended injections, but the cost is high. Are there other improvement methods, such as medication or dietary changes? Thank you.
Doctor's answer:
Hello, experts believe that the vast majority of precocious puberty can be treated, but early detection and timely treatment of precocious puberty are very important. Timely and effective treatment can not only prevent the further development of secondary sexual characteristics, reverse existing secondary sexual characteristics, and help children achieve a normal psychological state and the expected adult height, but also, through the diagnosis and treatment of precocious puberty, identify and treat the underlying cause of the condition. If a cause can be identified after the diagnosis of precocious puberty, etiological treatment should be administered. For tumor patients, early diagnosis and surgical treatment should be pursued. Hypothyroidism should be treated with thyroid hormone, and congenital adrenal hyperplasia should be treated with glucocorticoid hormones. For patients with idiopathic precocious puberty, medroxyprogesterone can be administered via intramuscular injection at a dose of 100–200 mg, once every 1–2 weeks, or chlormadinone can be taken orally at a daily dose of 1–2 mg.
