Patient's question:
Can enuresis heal on its own? If it can, how can it heal?Doctor's answer:
Hello: Self-healing is unlikely. Medication treatmentTake clomipramine, once a day, one hour before bedtime. For those under 7 years old, take 10+20 each time. After improvement, continue taking the medication for 3 months, then gradually reduce the dose. Take the same dose every two days before bedtime for one and a half months. Then take it every three days for another one and a half months until discontinuation. The total treatment duration is 6 months.
A small dose of clomipramine is used in combination with treatment. Its mechanism of action is its anticholinergic effect on the bladder, which increases bladder capacity and can stimulate the cerebral cortex, making it easier for children to wake up and urinate. During the treatment process, it was found that some children may experience insomnia, decreased appetite, and increased excitability at the beginning of treatment. Generally, these symptoms can resolve on their own within 1-2 weeks without treatment.
If the child's enuresis shows improvement, it is absolutely crucial not to interrupt the training, otherwise the established conditioned reflex will disappear, resulting in wasted effort. This also highlights the importance of consolidation therapy throughout the entire treatment process for enuresis.
