How to deal with a child's diarrhea for five days

Patient's question:

Currently, in general situations: When a child has diarrhea, they are consuming formula milk! Is this formula suitable for all types of diarrhea? Have you paid attention to this? Thank you!
Other: The child has been on this for five days now! It seems a bit better than the previous two days (in terms of spirits, eating without vomiting, and no more fever initially). However, they are still having diarrhea. Should I take them to the hospital? I gave them some rice porridge, but I’m not sure if that’s okay! Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Replenish fluids. Children are small in body size but have very active metabolism. If diarrhea lasts for a long time or is severe, they are prone to dehydration. Even adults can easily dehydrate when they have diarrhea, so the first step is to replenish fluids while also replenishing electrolytes and salt. A good method is to give children more water or rice soup, adding a small spoonful of salt. If they dislike the taste, a little sugar can be added instead.
Dietary adjustment. Children should take as few medications as possible. If they grow up being force-fed medicine, their immunity will be. Start with diet to simply combat diarrhea. Avoid feeding them high-nutrient and irritating foods. Some parents worry that their children will lose nutrients during diarrhea, so they give them a lot of high-nutrient foods like milk, fish, meat, etc. Unknowingly, this actually increases the burden on the digestive system, prolonging the duration of diarrhea.
