Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Treatment: If early detection of behavioral problems in children is made, appropriate behavioral guidance and treatment should be provided promptly, and the prognosis is generally good. Currently, there are several methods for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children:
  (1) Behavioral Therapy: The main focus is on training children to engage in appropriate cognitive activities, improve attention, and overcome distractions. Additionally, specific training programs are used to reduce excessive activity and correct behaviors, cultivating self-control skills in children. Through behavioral guidance, children should be promptly affirmed and praised when their behavior improves to enhance their self-confidence. When educating children, it is essential to adopt a gentle and persuasive approach, avoiding harsh criticism, ridicule, or physical punishment, which can damage their self-esteem.
  (2) Dietary Therapy: Avoid using certain artificial food colors, flavor enhancers, preservatives, and salicylates in food as much as possible. Adding caffeine in moderation, combined with stimulant medication, can enhance the therapeutic effect.
  (3) Medication Therapy: Before medication, a detailed physiological and neurological examination should be conducted to identify the underlying cause. If behavioral disorders in children are caused by congenital physical or neurological deficiencies, medication should be the primary treatment. Common medications include:
  a. Stimulants: Such as dextroamphetamine and methylphenidate. Significant efficacy is usually observed after 1–2 weeks of treatment.
  b. Sedatives: Such as chlorpromazine and thioridazine, which may be used if stimulant therapy is ineffective.
  c. High doses of vitamins can improve the behavior of children with ADHD to some extent.
