5 days of sleeping little during the day

Patient's question:

Forty-five days postpartum, during the 42-day follow-up, there was circular hair loss on the head, slightly outwardly flipped ribs, and sweating during naps (perhaps due to being too warmly wrapped). The past few days, I felt the breast milk wasn't sufficient, so I supplemented with formula each day, which led to nausea and vomiting again. The previous symptoms persisted, and I felt like I was lacking...

Doctor's answer:

Not lacking calcium, but lacking sleep when taking naps makes it hard to fall back asleep. Besides whether your baby sleeps a lot at night, as long as it exceeds 14 hours, it's fine. The brain development of babies during the infant stage is smoothly completed during deep sleep, so napping is very important for babies. In the neonatal period, the normal sleep time for babies is about 16 hours on average, with each deep sleep cycle lasting about 45 minutes. During the 1-3 month period, the average daily sleep time for infants is about 15 hours, while for babies over 6 months, the average daily sleep time is about 14 hours, and most babies can sleep for 6 hours at night during this stage. At around 1 year old, the average deep sleep time per day is 13-14 hours, and they can sleep through the night until morning.
Advice: My baby is now two months old. At first, she also didn’t nap for several days during the day. I gave her fish oil, and now she sleeps well every day. The first few months of a baby’s life are a peak period for brain development, and lack of sleep can interfere with it. Newborn babies should spend about 20 hours out of 24 in deep sleep. If the baby is breastfed, frequent bowel movements are not a problem. If bottle-fed, it might be a bit more. You can give her some probiotics. They are great. My baby has been using them. They are excellent for regulating the digestive system and boosting immunity.
