How long after birth is it best to check the fetus?

Patient's question:

Main symptoms of newborns: During the 32-week prenatal examination, the fetal renal pelvis separation was measured as 0.7 and 0.8. How long after birth is it recommended to go to the hospital for an examination?

Doctor's answer:

For the majority of patients with hydronephrosis detected during fetal development, a formal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the urinary system should be performed within one week after birth. If the renal pelvis fusion is ≥10 millimeters (your child's fusion is not too severe, and I will explain further below), a comprehensive examination under the guidance of a specialist doctor is required, including nuclear renal imaging, metabolic bladder-ureterography, etc., to identify the underlying cause. If the renal pelvis fusion is between 4-10 millimeters, a follow-up MRI should be conducted at 3 months and 6 months after birth. If the renal pelvis fusion is 4 millimeters, it can be considered normal.
