How long after birth is it best to check the fetus?

Patient's question:

Main symptoms of newborns: During the 32-week prenatal examination, the fetal renal pelvis separation was measured as 0.7 and 0.8. How long after birth is it best to go to the hospital for examination?

Doctor's answer:

For the majority of patients with hydronephrosis detected during fetal development, a formal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the urinary system is required within one week after birth. If the renal pelvis fusion is ≥10 millimeters (your child's fusion is not too severe, and I will explain further below), a comprehensive examination under the guidance of a specialist doctor is necessary, including nuclear renal imaging, metabolic bladder-ureterography, etc., to identify the underlying cause. If the renal pelvis fusion is between 4-10 millimeters, a follow-up MRI is required at 3 months and 6 months after birth. If the renal pelvis fusion is 4 millimeters, it can be considered normal.
