Child vomited and went to the hospital for an IV drip.

Patient's question:

At 1 year and 4 months, today he was vomiting and went to the hospital for an IV drip. They gave him some medicine to eat, and now he's not vomiting anymore. Just now, his temperature was taken a few times and it was high fever. Can he still take fever-reducing medicine? Thank you for any assistance you can provide: I want to know if he can still take fever-reducing medicine after taking other medications.

Doctor's answer:

Generally, when we use antipyretics in clinical diagnosis, there is a principle: children without a history of febrile seizures do not usually need antipyretics if their temperature is below 38.5°C. When the temperature is below 38.5°C, we need to actively lower it to normal or slightly higher. Common methods include physical cooling and drug-induced cooling.
Physical cooling methods include preventing tight wrapping, maintaining a uniform environmental temperature, indoor ventilation, warm water baths, alcohol rubs, cold pillows and ice hats, cold compresses, and cold saline enemas, among others. In clinical diagnosis, warm water baths are most commonly used due to their high safety factor and good effectiveness.
For drug-induced cooling, pediatricians generally prefer ibuprofen, or acetaminophen can also be used.
