Features: C?te d'Ivoire is the Chinese translation of the term "Ivory Coast." By UN agreement, the Republic of C?te d'Ivoire was renamed the Republic of C?te d'Ivoire on January 1, 1986. With a land area of 322,463 square kilometers and a population of 15 million (1998), C?te d'Ivoire became a French colony in 1893. After gaining independence in 1960, the country has maintained relatively stable politics, though political turmoil occurred during the 1990s in its process of democratization. Economically, national economy has achieved comprehensive development, earning it the titles of "the showcase of West Africa" and "a model of African success." Significant progress has also been made in education, science and technology, and literature and arts. C?te d'Ivoire established diplomatic relations with China in 1983, and in recent years, friendly cooperation between the two countries has continuously expanded and deepened in various fields such as politics, economy, and trade.
