Features: With nearly 10 years of experience teaching English and over 20 years of cumulative learning experience, my expertise in learning English far surpasses my experience in teaching it. Despite having been a teacher for almost a decade, my experience in learning English remains quite fresh, and I deeply understand the challenges of mastering the language. When we study English, the language materials we encounter are mostly written, while existing oral textbooks primarily focus on situational dialogues. As a result, we accumulate very little knowledge of common spoken expressions for various communication scenarios. It is not uncommon to encounter situations where we speak inappropriately, act inappropriately, or even fail to communicate effectively when interacting with native English speakers or living, studying, and working in English-speaking countries. Overcoming these language barriers and communicating fluently in English is certainly not an overnight task, but having a comprehensive and user-friendly oral textbook to build a basic language reserve of spoken expressions is a crucial step toward achieving proficiency. This book provides readers with a "statement bank" of basic conversational expressions tailored to general social communication needs.
Categorized by common communication scenarios, this book strives to comprehensively collect the most frequently used spoken expressions in these settings, showcasing different ways of expressing the same idea in similar situations, ranging from casual to formal expressions, offering learners a rich variety of choices. Keeping pace with the evolving nature of social life, this book also includes additional content that may be less covered in other similar books, such as driving, visiting hospitals, and renting apartments, to help readers address various issues in daily life, study, and work. Of course, the content of this book cannot cover all aspects of social life, but we have tried to approach it from the perspective of a reader who needs to use English to survive in an English-speaking world, ensuring that the book includes language materials for as many scenarios as possible.
We know that language is a carrier of culture. To speak appropriately and act with grace, it is essential to understand the cultural background, customs, and oral expression habits of English-speaking societies. Therefore, in each section, we provide brief introductions to relevant knowledge in the form of "mini-knowledge" to help readers better grasp the nuances of language and use appropriate expressions in the right contexts, thereby achieving effective communication.
