Does diarrhea occur in children after receiving the DTP vaccine?

Patient's question:

Yesterday afternoon, I took my baby to get the DTP vaccine. After getting the shot, we waited for thirty minutes to observe and everything was fine before heading home. Shortly after getting home, I noticed my baby started having diarrhea. It was quite severe, and I'm very worried about this issue. It might be a side effect from the vaccine.
What kind of help I need: What could cause diarrhea in a child after getting the DTP vaccine? What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

Yesterday afternoon, I took the baby to get the DTP vaccine. After getting the shot, I carefully observed for thirty minutes and, since there were no issues, we went home. Shortly after arriving home, I noticed the baby had already started having diarrhea. It was quite severe, so I assumed that if the nausea and vomiting weren’t too serious, you could treat it at home. Anesthesia from the vaccine might cause various reactions, such as fever, nausea and vomiting, or allergies. If the nausea and vomiting aren’t too severe, you can treat it at home. Make sure to give the baby plenty of fluids. If you’ve already started introducing solid foods, it’s best to pause them for now. If you’re breastfeeding, offer the baby small amounts of breast milk frequently. This will reduce stress on the stomach and improve absorption. Normally, the nausea and vomiting should improve within two or three days. If the diarrhea becomes severe, it’s essential to take the baby to the hospital for a checkup.
