3-month-old child with persistent fever

Patient's question:

On April 1, 2013, in the morning, the child started having a high fever. They went to the hospital for a follow-up visit and took fever-reducing medicine, which brought the temperature down. After about 4-5 hours, the fever returned! Later, they received intravenous drips for 6 days with ceftriaxone, but the fever didn’t go down, with it reaching as high as 39.5°C. However, when they took fever-reducing medicine, the temperature would go down, only to return after a while. Blood tests showed a slight anemia, but it wasn’t severe. Chest X-rays were also normal. The fever has been low-grade and fluctuating, already lasting for 7 days.
Previous treatment and outcomes: A few days ago, the child had a fever and was hospitalized for several days with intravenous drips, which resolved the issue.
The kind of assistance needed: I’d like to ask what the underlying cause is and why the child’s high fever keeps not going down. Should we go to a major hospital for a thorough examination?

Doctor's answer:

First, identify the cause of the fever—whether it's a viral or bacterial infection. Viral infections are usually self-limiting, and if your spirits and appetite are good, no special treatment is needed. However, if it's a bacterial infection, anti-inflammatory treatment is required. Anrik actually contains ibuprofen and should not be taken more than four times a day. It's not recommended as a regular medication, but if the fever persists, it's best to revisit the hospital for a check-up.
