Features: In December 2001, Li Rulong and Su Xinchun again hosted the "National Conference on the Standardization of Chinese Vocabulary" at Xiamen University, co-sponsored by the Institute of Language Application of the State Language Commission, Beijing Broadcasting University, Commercial Press, and the Language Commission of Xiamen City. If the previous conferences were characterized by a strong theoretical exploration focus, this one emphasized practical issues such as vocabulary application and standardization. Li Yuming, the director of the Institute of Language Application and director of the Language Information Department of the Ministry of Education, hoped that such seminars could continue, bringing research closer to reality and providing more platforms for academic exchanges in national language and character work. This initiative was supported by experts from all sides, and a decision was made to combine the outcomes of the biennially held "Vocabulary Theory" and "Vocabulary Application" conferences into a single collection. Therefore, the content of this book consists of half from the "National Conference on the Standardization of Chinese Vocabulary" and half from the "Fourth Conference on Chinese Lexicology."
