Features: With the transformation of modern enterprise production and operation methods, changes in market external conditions, and the shift from an industrial society to an information-based society, enterprises have moved from direct resource control through "vertical integration" to "horizontal integration," leveraging resources from other companies to quickly respond to market demands. As a result, companies focus their main efforts on core business activities while outsourcing non-core operations to specialized enterprises. This has led to the emergence and growth of "third-party logistics" (3PL) companies dedicated to logistics services.
China's logistics industry is still in its early stages, and compared to developed countries, there is a certain gap in terms of corporate logistics management and the quality and level of third-party logistics services. International experience has proven that breaking down sectoral fragmentation and monopolies, and establishing an open, market-oriented third-party logistics system, is an effective way and strategy to promote high-efficiency, low-cost circulation of goods.
Therefore, enhancing awareness of third-party logistics, moving away from the mindset of "doing everything in-house," and accelerating the modernization of China's logistics sector while optimizing the logistics supply chain can not only improve corporate competitiveness but also enhance the efficiency of the entire national economy. Since China's entry into the WTO, the development of the logistics industry has received attention from all sides, and some major cities in China have already identified logistics as a pillar industry.
Research on the principles, operational methods, and case studies of third-party logistics will help China's logistics service industry learn from the experience of developed countries and accelerate alignment with international standards. This will enable third-party logistics to become a crucial force in the development of China's logistics industry.
