Features: As the tourism industry experiences rapid growth, China's tourism education and research have flourished. In 2002, there were over 1,100 higher and secondary tourism colleges (departments, majors, and institutions) across the country, with more than 300,000 students enrolled. Various forms (full-time and part-time) and levels (graduate, undergraduate, junior college, vocational school, etc.) of tourism education are thriving, supplying the industry with a large number of professionals. Tourism research continues to yield new achievements. The development and growth of tourism education require support from textbook construction. Over the past two decades, the Chinese tourism education community has published multiple sets of professional textbooks, laying a foundation for the development of tourism as a discipline and contributing to tourism education. However, with the rapid development of the tourism industry and continuous breakthroughs in tourism research, tourism textbooks must incorporate and reflect these new findings, offering readers the latest knowledge. Faced with the dynamic progress of the tourism discipline, especially the significant changes in recent years—such as the constant updates and introduction of tourism laws and regulations—teachers engaged in tourism education and research at universities feel both excited and pressured to continuously update teaching content and supplement new knowledge. Recognizing the need for textbooks to keep pace with developments, reflect the latest practices in the tourism industry, and incorporate new research findings, we have organized a group of teachers with extensive experience in teaching and researching tourism-related courses to compile this "21st Century Tourism Professional Series of Planning Textbooks." This series covers a wide range of topics, encompassing all courses in tourism management, closely aligning with the actual development of international and domestic tourism activities, the tourism industry, and tourism research. It explains the general principles of modern tourism management and operations from a high theoretical starting point, summarizes the lessons learned from the discipline, industry, and sector, and presents the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the tourism discipline through the latest practical materials and tourism research findings. In terms of writing style, we have referred to and learned from the experiences of tourism textbooks from both domestic and international sources, as well as from other disciplines, striving to make this series characterized by comprehensiveness in theory, richness in knowledge, rationality in structure, liveliness in form, scientificity in content, and vividness in language. This textbook is suitable for use in university tourism management programs, as well as for higher vocational education, self-study exams, and training for middle and senior-level tourism industry professionals.
