One night, after a heavy snowfall, I dismounted and tied my horse to a tree stump that had emerged from the snow. Lying in the snow not far from the stump, I drifted into a deep sleep. When dawn broke, I discovered that I was lying on the roof of the village church. At first, I couldn’t find my horse anywhere, but later I heard its neighing sound coming from above. I looked up and was astonished to see it tied to the top of the church’s flagpole. It didn’t take me long to realize. The night before, a heavy snowfall had blanketed the village, but the weather suddenly turned warm while I was asleep. As the snow began to melt slowly, the ground gradually sank, and I ended up on the church roof. The tree stump where I had tied my horse turned out to be the top of the church’s cross.
