Features: Every day, every day, we mess up our thoughts and then put them back, just as we always have. In our entire lives, there has never been an exception. A happy day is used up entirely by me in one go; just like a whole lifetime of happiness is used up entirely by Grandpa in one go. Recommended by the famous picture book author Ji Mi, this is a book about youth, childhood, and memory. The illustrations in this book were mostly completed between 1996 and 1999, starting as a weekly illustration column for the "Flower Editorial Column" edited by the renowned fiction writer Peng Shujun of the Free Times. It has been () down the road, with one illustration per week, and before I knew it, quite a few had been drawn. I suppose it could be considered a decent and beautiful thing I did in the last century.
When I went back to () these old things, it was like pulling out a very old, worn wooden box from under the bed and opening it. The story is always the same—unintentionally knocking over the contents and scattering them all over the floor, the dust irritating my nose and making me sneeze violently. Then, I used a drawing software called PHOTOSHOP to () them together, just like () those days of drawing. After that, I saved the finished illustrations onto a single MO disk, but completely unexpectedly, it suddenly broke, and I even lost all the backups. That feeling was like being on a space shuttle traveling to the moon, only to have an accident in the middle of the journey, losing gravity, and being carried away like an astronaut.
In this second attempt, I have been thinking about things in life that happen for no reason. I have become so clear that I am doing something called "restarting," a life that is being clearly restarted. In this second life, I drink cola while typing on the keyboard, trying to whistle a cheerful tune, but the whistling can’t escape the self-reproach and whatnot inside me. I think I need redemption. By the time everything was turned into a book.
