Patient's question:
My baby is one year and four months old. Lately, he hasn't been drinking formula milk anymore, and now he only drinks Happy Baby Yogurt. What should I do? Previously, his health was good, but during this health check, he was severely anemic. About his past treatment and effectiveness: none. What kind of help would you like: How can I get him to drink formula milk again and not be anemic?Doctor's answer:
Childhood anemia is common in children aged 6 months to 3 years due to iron deficiency, as the primary self-healing substances are protein and iron. The main diet for newborns is milk, so protein is never lacking. However, iron content in milk is very low, and the iron in some foods is affected by oxalates, carbonates, and phytates, which hinder iron absorption and utilization, thus leading to iron-deficiency anemia. Newborns generally do not suffer from anemia again due to the iron reserves left by the mother. As infants grow and develop, these iron reserves are usually consumed within about a year, so children after 6 months are more prone to anemia.
