Features: The book "Three-Dimensional Memory of English Vocabulary" has the following six characteristics:
1. Authority of the Author Team
The chief editor, Zhang Yongxian, is a senior professor at Renmin University of China, who has studied and worked abroad for nearly 10 years. He has conducted in-depth and unique research on English vocabulary and its memorization methods, and his teaching style is highly favored by students. The other two contributing authors, Wei Rushan and Ma Zhiying, are both doctoral graduates of Renmin University of China.
2. Scientificity of Memory Methods
Three-dimensional memory advocates integrated memorization of words in terms of "sound," "form," and "meaning," bringing words to life; it also combines "learning," "testing," and "using" to make words come alive. How to make words "come alive" in memorization and usage is detailed by the authors in the preface.
3. Rationality of Word Selection Range
The word selection in this book is based on three criteria. First, the "General Requirements" from the newly formulated "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses" by the Ministry of Education; second, the "Vocabulary Outline for the College English Test Band 4"; and third, based on the vocabulary that frequently appears beyond the syllabus in past exam papers and the authors' teaching experience, additional words that may appear in future exams have been supplemented.
4. Novelty of Teaching Model
The newly formulated "Teaching Requirements for College English Courses" by the Ministry of Education states, "We should make full use of the opportunities brought by the development of multimedia and network technology to adopt new teaching models." In response, China Education Television has recorded the television program "Help You Memorize Words, One Minute per Word: Three-Dimensional Memory of English Vocabulary" using this book as the textbook. The program will be broadcast on China Education Television (CETVI) and will also be aired on dozens of local television stations, including Beijing Television, Shaanxi Television, Shandong Education Television, and others.
5. Practicality of "Help You Memorize Words, One Minute per Word"
During the recording process, to provide instructors with an audience for teaching and interaction, the program team invited individuals of varying cultural backgrounds as on-site viewers. On average, each 10-minute segment covers about 10 words. Practical results show that these viewers can generally memorize the 10 words after listening to a 10-minute explanation. Therefore, "Help You Memorize Words, One Minute per Word" is not just our subjective wish but rather a result of practical experience.
6. The Effort of the Authors Leads to Ease and Efficiency for Readers
Compared to dictionary-style (i.e., alphabetically ordered) English vocabulary books, the writing of this book required significant time and effort. Every word was meticulously crafted by the authors. The phrase "Who knows the words in the book, every word is the result of hard work" aptly describes this effort. We believe that the authors' dedication will bring readers ease and efficiency in their studies.
