Will a scab definitely form at the injection site after receiving the BCG vaccine?

Patient's question:

Hello, will there definitely be scabs and rashes at the injection site after the child receives the BCG vaccine? The child was born weighing less than 5 pounds and received the BCG vaccine later. Hello, will there be scabs or rashes again at the injection site after the shot, or will they appear again after a period of time?
Medical history and treatment effectiveness: None

Doctor's answer:

Usually, three weeks after receiving the BCG vaccine, redness and swelling may reappear at the vaccination site. The center gradually softens, forming small white pustules. When the pustules rupture, pus is discharged. It takes 1-2 weeks for crusting to form, and after crusting, a circular scar may remain. The above process generally lasts for 2 months. This is normal, so please do not worry. If an abscess forms, you can ask a doctor to use a syringe to drain the pus, which will promote crusting. This will generally have no impact on the child's health.
After receiving the BCG vaccine, if there are blisters or pus formation locally, there is no need to apply medication or re-bandage. However, the area should be kept clean, and clothing should not be too tight. If pus oozes out, use sterile gauze or cotton to gently wipe it clean without squeezing. It will naturally crust and heal in about two to three months. The scab should be allowed to fall off naturally and must not be picked off prematurely.
