Features: This book includes six parts. Part 1 selects 100 articles covering social hot issues, providing translations and annotations for their difficult and long sentences, with vocabulary annotations for 60 of the articles. This part is designed for candidates to read articles in detail and use it to review comprehensively reading comprehension, translation, cloze, and writing. We believe that only through detailed reading can candidates truly improve their level. The specific steps are: (1) Read an article and complete the questions within 12–15 minutes. (2) Compare the answers but do not rush to read the explanations. Think about why you answered correctly or incorrectly on your own. (3) Read the explanations and pay attention to the differences between your problem-solving approach and the explanation’s approach. Summarize the rules and correct your own thinking. (4) Identify the difficult and long sentences in the article, clarify the main structure of the sentence, and then analyze and understand the sentence based on the previous and following sentences. If you feel awkward about understanding the long sentence, try translating it yourself and then compare it with the translation and annotations of this sentence in “Difficult and Long Sentence Translation and Annotations” or “Explanations.” Never just translate it verbally. (5) Focus on memorizing the vocabulary and phrases in “Postgraduate Entrance Exam Vocabulary” (the vocabulary is arranged in the order of appearance). When selecting these words, we referred to the syllabus but were more concerned about their usage frequency, and the meanings were carefully selected. Candidates should also recognize the derivatives of these words. Candidates must memorize these words and their meanings. We also advocate that candidates try to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words in the article before looking at the vocabulary list. The author does not recommend candidates to memorize the vocabulary listed in “Other Vocabulary.” (6) If an article involves knowledge that is unfamiliar to candidates, they should also summarize and understand the content discussed in the article from a knowledge perspective. (7) Select some good sentence patterns and phrases from the article for writing practice. Part 2 is a set of explanations for 100 articles, with the purpose of highlighting the key points. The second set of 100 articles in Part 3 aims to further improve candidates’ reading ability, expand their knowledge, and increase their vocabulary. Candidates do not need to read the articles in detail; they can just use them as reading comprehension practice. Of course, candidates should also spend more time on articles that are more difficult and newer. Part 4 is the explanations for the second set of 100 articles. Part 5 includes 3 self-assessment tests and explanations. After training with 200 articles, candidates can comprehensively evaluate their level in this part. Therefore, we recommend that candidates spend 50–60 minutes to complete each test. This way, candidates can also check if their time management meets the requirements. Please evaluate your level based on the average score of these 3 tests. Part 6 provides a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the reading comprehension section in past exam papers. Based on summarizing past exam papers, it explains and analyzes the problem-solving approach through examples, training candidates’ skills in reading comprehension, identifying important information needed for answering, and developing their ability to guess the meaning of words based on context. The author suggests that candidates first read this part before reading the other parts. 2005 Postgraduate Entrance Exam English Reading 200 Articles This book also includes some application texts such as product descriptions, advertisements, notices, letters, resumes, and a few narrative texts, with the purpose of helping students familiarize themselves with various types of articles mentioned in the syllabus.
