Features: The medical cases recorded in Clinical Medical Records are collected from renowned physicians in Shanghai and its surrounding areas during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, making them truly valuable. The content is extensive and the records are authentic. The cases cover a wide range of specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and gynecology. A distinctive feature of this book is its original recording characteristics, free of any editing or embellishment. Some cases involve only a single consultation, while others have multiple consultations, all recorded in the treatment process. For example, in the case of Qian Laorong, the patient suffered from asthma after being startled and running, and the treatment involved San Yao Tang combined with Xuan Fu Dai Zhe Su Zi for lowering qi. During the second consultation, the prescription was given, and it was noted afterward, "This prescription was not taken, and the patient died due to phlegm obstructing qi." This indicates that the cases were recorded by the practitioners for their own experience, not for publication, thus demonstrating clear authenticity and great value. The cases are complete, providing a full picture. The book contains several cases with long treatment durations, fully documenting the process. For instance, in the case of Jiang Keguang, there were a total of 30 consultations. Detailed records were made of the symptoms, pulse, tongue, pathogenesis, treatment principles, and prescriptions for each stage, from the exterior, qi, ying, blood, to recovery. This truly reproduces the process and efficacy of treating wind-heat with traditional Chinese medicine over a century ago. Many typical symptoms of warm diseases, such as macules and delirium, along with their treatment strategies, are preserved in the cases, making them excellent materials for studying and learning warm diseases. Medical Records of Master Wang Yixiang was compiled from hand-copied manuscripts collected by Huang Zhuoren, Huang Shaozong, Huang Yunhua, and others between 1924 and 1934 during the Republic of China. It is now a rare manuscript held by Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. The book consists of four volumes, recording the medical cases diagnosed by Master Yixiang, without disease classification or titles. The discussions focus primarily on seasonal fevers and warm diseases, as well as malaria and dysentery, with some coverage of gynecology and pediatrics. The cases are thorough and detailed, with precise diagnoses and flexible prescriptions. Each prescription is accompanied by classical references, and often includes pills or powders as adjuncts, demonstrating unique ingenuity and a distinct style. Medical Records of Xu Yangtian was written by Xu Yangtian during the Qing Dynasty. It is a record of his clinical prescriptions. Most of the cases involve a single consultation with a prescription, with fewer cases marked for follow-up consultations. Before each prescription, the disease name, symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment principles are described, with varying levels of detail. The detailed descriptions are comprehensive, while the brief ones consist of only a few words. The language is simple and unadorned, yet concise and to the point. The diagnoses are accurate, the prescriptions follow principles, and the herbs are selected appropriately. The records reveal profound medical theories and rich clinical experience.
