Features: For the monarchs of various European countries, the 20th century was truly a slaughterhouse. The brutal wars and revolutionary storms sweeping across the European continent toppled numerous kings and queens from their thrones. Those who desperately managed to retain their thrones were either like the Norwegian king, portrayed as a harmless incompetent, or became the subject of tabloid news, much like members of the British royal family. The book "Madmen, Idiots, and Perverts" recounts the remarkable (or rather, terrible) misdeeds of royal members throughout history. From ancient Rome to Edward VII's reign in Britain, from the luxurious rooms of Versailles to the dark corners of the Bastille, Europe's great monarchs were unparalleled masters in creating atrocities, engaging in self-destruction, or displaying various pathological desires. Otherwise, they would leave this world in shameful ways or meet with terrible misfortune.
