Features: The time when management theory has been disguised as an exact science is far too long. The prescriptions of well-managed companies are often revered as absolute truths. For example, in the 1980s, capturing market share became a long-term pursuit in the business world. Later, reengineering became the new dominant trend. Traditional American MBA foundational courses are often structured around specific functions or disciplines of business and management, such as finance, marketing, accounting, and human resource management. Now, various fully functionalized solutions are being integrated through cross-disciplinary collaboration, providing the concept of "general management." The excessive focus on functional aspects of management is shifting toward a greater emphasis on management processes. The cultivation of management skills has transitioned from a secondary objective to one of equal importance to management knowledge. The features of this book are: (1) De-emphasizing theory and formulas, focusing on practical skills. The distinct difference between an MBA and other graduate degrees lies in its pragmatism, practicality, and operationality. Its goal is not to produce "academic" researchers but to cultivate middle-to-high-level business managers who can apply knowledge effectively, value hands-on work, and genuinely lead companies or other organizations in real-world scenarios. Upholding this spirit, the book avoids citing extensive profound theories and complex formulas, dedicating much space to case studies and practical techniques. It can be said that the main content of the book focuses on "management" rather than "the study of management." Based on analyzing case studies, it identifies universal patterns to derive concepts, principles, and solutions to problems. Its objective is not to produce knowledge-based "management graduates" but to foster "practicing leaders." When discussing methods and theories, the book strives for precision and depth rather than comprehensiveness. (2) Easy to understand, highly readable. To cater to readers with moderate education levels, the book avoids using overly specialized or hard-to-understand terminology. When selecting case studies, it also strives to replace professionalism with storytelling, opting for concise, straightforward, and typical examples instead of lengthy, complex, or obscure ones. (3) Up-to-date content. The book incorporates numerous case studies and new management concepts from the past two years, providing readers with a fresh perspective.
