Features: The 20th century is drawing to a close, and the 21st is striding towards us. At this important moment of the turn of the century, people are looking back and summarizing the past while exploring and looking ahead to the future. How to depict the world literary map of the 20th century, how to elaborate on the course, changes, developments, commonalities, and characteristics, as well as the achievements and shortcomings of world literature in the 20th century, has become an urgent issue that everyone is concerned about and needs to explore together. This book, listed as part of the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund "Eighth Five-Year Plan" project, is an exploration in this regard. The dominant motivation of this book, of course, is still to convey basic information, especially to convey the basic information of British literature in the second half of the 20th century, so it may be more like a reference book. So far, the work done by foreign literature scholars in our country in this regard cannot be said to be entirely satisfactory. In fact, the understanding of British literature after World War II by foreign literature scholars is far less profound than that of British literature before World War II and in the 19th century. For example, the introductions to writers such as Tom Stoppard, Harold Pinter, Seamus Heaney, and Martin Amis are not sufficient, and the introductions to Julian Barnes, Ian McEwan, Peter Ackroyd, and Anita Brookner are even less, or almost none.
