Patient's question:
In the past few days, the baby has had less bowel movements, a red bottom, and cried intensely during bowel movements. During sleep, the baby suddenly cried intensely.Treatment history and effectiveness: It hasn’t appeared for the first time again. What kind of help is needed: How can the baby be stopped from crying.
Doctor's answer:
The baby is crying, which should be due to discomfort. Once the baby's illness is cured, it will naturally stop crying. Your baby may have diaper rash, also known as "red bottom," which is an inflammatory skin condition. It is often caused by the baby's hot body, delicate skin, prolonged exposure to damp diapers, excessive rinsing of the buttocks, and the accumulation of damp-heat, leading to skin inflammation. This condition is most common in infants. Due to the constant dampness and discomfort in the affected area, infants may cry more frequently. Generally, medication is not necessary; local treatment and enhanced care are sufficient.Recommendations:
The baby's anal area is very thin. If there is redness and swelling around the anus, it is recommended to:
- Wash the area with water after each bowel movement, using lukewarm water or a 4% boric acid solution. Pat dry with a soft cotton cloth—do not rub.
- Avoid using soap when washing the buttocks to reduce irritation.
- After washing, apply talcum powder or diaper cream.
If the temperature or room conditions permit, you can place a diaper under the buttocks to allow the area to air out or be exposed to sunlight for 2–3 times a day, each time for 10–20 minutes. Generally, the redness should be significantly reduced within 1–2 days.
It is important to change diapers or pull-ups frequently.
