Chen Yinque Collection. Correspondence Collection

Author: Chen Yinque
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-06-01
Features: The collection is organized by correspondent. Letters to the same recipient are arranged in chronological order. The order of correspondents is generally based on the chronological order of their letters. In some cases, letters with related content or close relationships are grouped together. The source of each letter—whether original, copy, or catalog—is noted at the end of the letter. The specific date of each letter is determined. Where possible, the year is noted in parentheses above the signature in the letter. Where only a rough estimate can be made, "about" is added before the year. Where it cannot be determined, only the month and day are noted. Original letters without punctuation are punctuated appropriately, and paragraphs are divided as needed. All formatting elements such as line breaks, spaces, (polite writing), and emphasis are preserved to maintain the original meaning. Letters written by Chen Yinque after his blindness were dictated by him, often written by his wife, Tang Yuan. These letters are recorded in the same format as he used. This collection includes over 200 letters written by Chen Yinque to dozens of relatives, friends, and scholars between 1923 and 1966, the latest available. The book specifically features letters such as "To My Sister" (excerpts) [one letter], "To Xu Bingchang" [one letter], "To Yuan Tongli" [one letter], "To Rong Geng" [nine letters], "To Chen Shuren" [seventy-seven letters], "To Chen Yuan" [eighteen letters], "To Hu Shi" [eight letters], "To Luo Xianglin" [eight letters], "To Mei Yiqi" [eight letters], "To Liu Wendi" [one letter], "To Pu Jiangqing" [one letter], "To Paul Pelliot" [one letter], "To Shen Jianshi" [two letters], and "To Yang Shulian" [twenty-one letters].
