Patient's question:
Doctor, my child (two years old) has been coughing recently for 4 days straight, accompanied by hoarseness. Currently, they are taking medication, but it seems to be ineffective. The coughing is worse at night, without phlegm, and there is no fever. Therefore, I am seeking consultation. Thank you!Doctor's answer:
There are many different types of children's lung-cleaning medications. Coughing requires determining the appropriate medication based on its severity; mild coughs can temporarily go without medication; frequent coughing may involve the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine; cough suppressants should absolutely not be taken in multiple different TCM or Western medications simultaneously to prevent additive side effects. When a severe cough leads to infection, antibiotics may also need to be used for treatment. Since the current treatment has not been effective, nebulization therapy can be considered.
