Patient's question:
My cousin recently had a baby, a girl. The child is only sixteen months old and is quite well-behaved, but sometimes she cries. When she cries, she can have convulsions, her face turns blue, and at its worst, she seems unresponsive. What is this condition, and how can it be treated? What kind of help do you need: What is the condition when an infant cries and has convulsions, and how should it be treated?
Doctor's answer:
This is because the central nervous system of infants and young children is not fully developed. Every time they encounter anger, fear, or things that don't meet their expectations, they burst into tears, which increases the excitability of the emotional center and temporarily suppresses the respiratory center. As a result, babies often experience pauses in breathing after crying for a few moments, leading to choking, bluish lips, and in severe cases, even arching their bodies, losing consciousness, and convulsions. Most of the time, muscle relaxation and recovery occur within half a minute, while a very small number of severe cases may last for 2-3 minutes.
