What should I do if my baby has a high fever of over 39 degrees Celsius that won't go down?

Patient's question:

The baby is now one year and four and a half months old. Last night at around 10 p.m., it had a fever of 39 degrees Celsius and went to the hospital for two injections. This morning at around 8 a.m., it had another fever of 38.5 degrees Celsius and only took fever-reducing medicine. At 3 p.m., it had another high fever of over 39 degrees Celsius and went to the hospital for an IV drip. At 7:30 p.m., it had another fever of 39.3 degrees Celsius and took fever-reducing medicine again. It has been over two hours since then, and the fever still hasn't gone down. The baby has fallen asleep again.

Doctor's answer:

The normal basal body temperature of a healthy child is between 36.9℃ and 37.5℃. Generally, when the temperature drops more than 1℃ below the baseline, it can be considered a fever. Low-grade fever refers to a temperature fluctuating around 38℃, while high fever is when the temperature is above 39℃. A fever lasting more than two weeks is referred to as a prolonged fever. Given how severe your baby's fever is, it is unlikely to be a simple cold or other common illnesses. Please have a doctor immediately diagnose whether it is a viral or bacterial infection.
