How to deal with a child's sore throat and fever

Patient's question:

- A 2-year-old child with a sore throat and high fever was admitted to the children's hospital and received IV fluids for several days. After the fluids, the fever subsided, but it returned at home despite taking fever-reducing medication. The fever went down again after a while, but then it came back.
What kind of help is needed: Is this normal? I received IV fluids and took medication, but why is the fever still present?

Doctor's answer:

Fever is a common symptom, often seen in infectious diseases. Currently, the child has had a fever for several days, and medication has been ineffective. Therefore, it is recommended to take the child for early blood tests, chest X-rays, and other relevant examinations to identify the cause of the fever and provide timely treatment. Avoid using antibiotics and fever-reducing drugs blindly, as this may sometimes delay the condition and lead to more severe consequences for the child.
