Wondering how to deduce the child's intrauterine choking

Patient's question:

At 35 weeks pregnant, one day the fetal movement was particularly strong, while on another day it was very slight, and sometimes I couldn't even feel it. Is this normal? I want to know how to determine if the baby is choking inside the womb.

Doctor's answer:

In clinical diagnosis, the self-assessment method of fetal movement is often used. The pregnant woman counts fetal movements three times a day while lying down in the morning, afternoon, and evening, each time for one hour. Multiply the results and divide by four to obtain the 12-hour fetal movement count. If the fetal movement is greater than or equal to 30 times, or greater than or equal to 4 times per hour over 12 hours, it is considered normal. If the fetal movement is less than or equal to 3 times per hour for two consecutive days, it is considered abnormal. Immediate hospitalization for placental monitoring is required.
