How to deal with a six-month-old child who is not growing in height and weight

Patient's question:

My child is about to turn six months old, but their height and weight haven't increased much. At birth, they were 50 cm tall and weighed 6 pounds. During the first health check-up, they grew 8.3 cm in height and gained more than 3 pounds in weight. By the third month health check-up, they had only grown 1.8 cm in height and gained 2 pounds in weight. At the six-month health check-up, they grew about 4 cm in height and weighed around 13 pounds. They seem too thin. Is this normal for both their height and weight? Besides breast milk, they don't like eating rice porridge either. What kind of check-ups should we do? They have grown two teeth. Do we need to do any check-ups for that? Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

A six-month-old baby weighs 13 pounds, weighing six pounds at birth. On average, the baby grows more than one pound each month, and the height increases by 14.1 centimeters. The growth in height is quite good, but the weight gain is much slower. The baby is breastfed, but doesn't like eating rice porridge. The baby has grown two teeth. Except for the slow weight gain, everything else is normal. Various complementary foods can be given to the baby to enhance nutrition, such as vegetables, fruit puree, minced meat, porridge, mixed soup, and noodle soup. Focus on breastfeeding.
