How to deal with recurrent fever in a 14-month-old baby?

Patient's question:

The second baby, a 14-month-old girl, has been having recurrent fever. Currently, her highest temperature is 39.3°C. From yesterday afternoon to 6 a.m. today, we have given her fever-reducing medication four times. If her fever drops again, what should we do? Her older brother had a seizure, and we are very worried.

Doctor's answer:

From the child's test results, the possibility of a viral infection is much higher. It is recommended to use oseltamivir promptly. If the child has recurrent high fever and poor mental state, hospitalization for treatment should also be considered, and the doctor's treatment advice should be followed. Antipyretic drugs are just temporary measures to reduce fever, and they can be taken a maximum of four times a day. If the effect is not good, other antipyretic drugs can be used. To prevent the recurrence of convulsions, fever should still be actively reduced when the child has a fever.
