Features: This dictionary is one of the "General Language and Characters Series Reference Books" and is designed to serve readers with primary and secondary education levels in learning and using modern Chinese common idioms. The book includes over 2,000 commonly used modern Chinese idioms. Standard characters are used throughout, based on the "General Table of Simplified Characters" newly published by the National Language and Characters Working Committee in 1986, and the "Comprehensive List of Non-standard Characters" jointly issued by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Commission for the Reform of Chinese Characters. The collection of idioms is vast. This book adopts "generality" as the standard for selection, with all entries sourced from modern works. Idioms found in ancient or modern works that are no longer used today are not included. Local idioms with narrow popularity and strong dialectal characteristics, as well as vulgar and low-level content idioms, are also excluded. In terms of entry writing and selection, this book emphasizes a balance between standardization and reflecting the inherent flexibility and diversity of idioms. Each entry includes example sentences after the definition to supplement the semantic and usage explanations. When two example sentences are provided, they are separated by a vertical line "|". All example sentences are cited from formal publications, with references (specified as "" for newspapers or "" for journals). Entries are arranged in alphabetical order of Pinyin. For entries with the same first character, they are ordered by stroke count, with the character with more strokes placed later. If the first characters are the same, the second character is used for ordering, and so on. An "Alphabetical Index of Entry First Characters" and a "Stroke Index of Entries" are provided before the main text.
