Patient's question:
My baby is a premature child. I was very worried about the child's condition from the beginning. Recently, the child has appeared with this series of conditions, and I am also very worried, afraid that the child will get worse. Please ask if babies with jaundice will grow fatter?Doctor's answer:
In your case, it may be physiological jaundice. In mild cases, jaundice appears as a light yellow hue limited to the face and neck, or may extend to the torso, with sclera also becoming yellowish. It typically resolves within 2 to 3 days, and the skin color returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. In severe cases, jaundice similarly starts on the head and spreads to the feet, affecting the entire body. Vomiting and cerebrospinal fluid may also turn yellow, with the duration lasting more than a week. In some premature infants, it may persist for up to 4 weeks, with the stool still appearing yellow and no bilirubin in the urine. It is recommended to use blue light therapy, which can be effective.
