Can you apply a hot towel for fever?

Patient's question:

These days, my boss said I'm not in good spirits and it's affecting my work performance. Actually, I don't want to, either. I always can't sleep at night, and sometimes I feel my heart racing and feel uncomfortable. If it gets worse, I'm worried it will affect my health and work. May I ask if applying a warm towel can help with fever?

Doctor's answer:

When a child has a fever, use a hot towel or a cool towel, depending on what you intend to do. For general physical cooling, a hot towel should be used to wipe over major blood vessels, such as the armpits and groin. Note that the abdomen should not be wiped. In your case, you can first use alcohol to bathe for fever reduction, and then identify the cause of the fever. There are many reasons that can cause fever; the most common is infection, followed by connective tissue diseases, malignant tumors, and so on. Don’t rush to take medication.
