Features: This book is divided into four parts. The first part provides a detailed discussion on new theories, technologies in endocrinology, mechanisms of hormone action, and the pathogenesis of endocrine tumors, introducing the fundamental theories and techniques in endocrine imaging, endocrine pathology, and endocrine molecular biology. The second and third parts systematically elaborate on the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of common and most rare endocrine and metabolic diseases, incorporating the fifty years of research achievements, advanced technologies, and valuable clinical experiences from our hospital as well as many important findings from domestic and international studies. Additionally, it provides a relatively detailed introduction to new types of endocrine and metabolic diseases (e.g., calcium receptor diseases, ion channel diseases, hormone insensitivity syndromes, and hormone hypersensitivity syndromes). The fourth part discusses the effects of environmental factors, medications, stress, anesthesia, surgery, fasting, exercise, intravenous nutritional support, aging, and changes in endocrine function during important organ diseases.
Many features of this book are worth mentioning. First, its content is rich and comprehensive. It thoroughly explains the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of diseases while detailing diagnostic methods, standards, and treatment approaches. Although some techniques have not yet been widely adopted in China, they should be a direction for our future development. Second, the book is well-researched and covers both the essential points of medical history and physical examinations, as well as new diagnostic and treatment technologies. The content is presented in an accessible manner, meeting the needs of medical professionals at all levels for both clinical practice and teaching, and is also helpful for endocrine research. Third, the book lists nearly nine thousand references, numbered and marked in the text for each section, facilitating readers in referencing and in-depth study. Fourth, it compares and evaluates the advantages, disadvantages, and selection principles of various diagnostic, differential diagnostic, and treatment methods, providing readers with a basis and space for making diagnostic and treatment decisions based on specific circumstances. Fifth, each chapter includes a table of contents, and the book ends with an index in both Chinese and English for easy reference.
However, it must be stated that some of the sources of the information are based on personal opinions. Certain viewpoints, methods, and dosages of drugs and their usage still require further validation and should not be blindly followed.
